Consumer Plans for Tablet Purchasing By Income

Income does play a part with tablet buying plans, and as expected...the more money we are making, the more likely we own or will be buying a tablet in the near future.  I personally have both a Samsung Galaxy tab and an iPAD in my household, and only one is activated and running over a cellular network while the other one primarily uses WiFi or a MiFi device for Internet Access.

If we take a look at last year's online survey of 7K plus consumers, tablets  appear to be top of mind in terms of purchasing plans.  When you look at the results of the survey from June vs. November of 2011, it appears that every income category has an increase in plans to purchase tablets (ranging from 8 to9% jump), except for the 250K+ income category.  In fact, almost a 3rd of those with incomes below 49K, had plans to purchase a tablet this year, even while these devices are not exactly cheap.

According to Apple's Schiller, within three days of the release of the new iPad, 3 million units had been sold.  For those of you out there that really want to upgrade an older Apple iPad for the new one, Apple does and a Reuse and Recycle program in place, and some are saying you can get up to $320 for an old Apple iPad device that can be used to buy the New iPad.

Stay tuned, as Compass Intelligence is starting to look at the entire device market by operating system in terms of shipments and activations.  The key for carriers really making money, is application sales and of course activations (those tablets actually running over the cellular network whether it is 3G or 4G).
